When I decided to cosplay Kimmy Schmidt from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I discovered that the iconic shoes she wears in the show had were impossible to get a hold of. So I made my own replica pair from a recycled pair of Sketchers Twinkle Toes sneakers.

I began with a picture of the discontinued shoes to use as a reference

I found a pair of Twinkle Toes in my size on Ebay and ordered them to use as a base for my shoes

I removed the outer layer with an X-acto knife, leaving the lining

I wet a piece of canvas and painted it with a dye mixture to create a watercolor effect

I cut the pieces, using the removed pieces as a base. I then hand sewed the pieces onto the lining pieces.

I sewed the tongue of the shoe before the main shoe because I needed to make an extension to atatch the canvas to

I created an extension piece, since the shoes I was making a pair of high-top shoes and hand sewed the lining piece in place

I taylored the shoes to the shape I needed (I left out the zipper in the back because I don’t like the feel).

I made sure to leave extra room on the bottom so I could glue the fabric into the base of the shoes

I hand painted on the design on the sides of the shoes and used E-6000 to attach the canvas to the rest of the shoe

Finally I added the eyelits, laced the shoes, and glued rhinestones onto the canvas with E-6000
